Bee Gees - I Started A Joke

For some reason this song did not have a UK release as a single despite it reaching being a hit in a number of country's, I did acquire this track as a single, there was no country of origin shown on the single, it was later found out it was a German pressing.
The first time I heard this song was on a TV program ' Frankie Howard meets the Bee Gees', prior to this I had seen the Bee Gees LP Idea in a shop window and had decided that I wanted that LP for Christmas, at that time knowing little about the Bee Gees, just after Christmas I made my way into Kingston and brought the LP, getting it home and putting the LP on the record player there was no sound, the cartridge had failed, it was a week later after the record player had ben repaired that I finally got to play the LP.

Victory Class 0-6-0T

In a recent post I mentioned that I had started a 'Future Engine Fund' to help pay for the models of the Kerr Stewart 'Victory' class when they were produced, when the models were ready there was only about £80 in the fund, so I left it and paid for the engines,  in reality during the First Word War it was acknowledged that the 'Inland Docks &Waterways' needed some more powerful locomotives, that also had to work over the National Rail Network, ten were built and suppled the 'Inland Docks and Waterways' however the Government commandeered the locomotives some time after delivery to shunt military traffic in various ports, after the war ended the locomotives were sold off six went to collieries, the other four were brought by railway companies three to South Wales concerns and the fourth to the East Kent Railway, none of the class survived into preservation, a group was trying to acquire the last survivor of the class, the engine shed it was stored in collapsed and the engine was a write off.

Earlier in the month I brought some more records, about a hundred UK issue singles and EP's and a further fifty or so American issues, I will have to put the trains away and start downloading the records.

It has been a busy week as they decided to change out our smart electricity meter for a new one.

For some reason the 'A' side of their second single, Make ME A Doormat, is not on you tube but the 'B' side is.

Dawn Patrol - Ging Gang Goo!

I think I acquired this record as part of a Job Lot as 1989 is generally outside the era I collect, the foster child was a member of the Girl Guides for a time and went to one camp, she loved it and was looking forward to going again but left the Guides before the next camp, she was also a member of the local Church Choir, part of the requirement for the award she was aiming for required her to attend a residential choir course, she was dead against this, she was eventually persuaded to go on return she changed her mind and wanted to go again, she went to at least another five.
My elder sister was a member of the Guides and they organised a weekend camp at the local camping site where we lived in Hampton (The Beveree long gone and built on, it rained all weekend, she came back Sunday evening soaking wet, hating both the Guides and Camping, my younger sister was also in the Guides but being at Boarding School they never went camping. I was in the Scouts and don't remember any problems camping. Later someone I met through helping at a Children's Camp said "as an organisation the Guides were responsible for putting more girls/women off camping than all the other organisations put together".

Jan & Kelly - And Then He Kicked Me

Jan & Kelly (Jan Hunt & Helen Kelly) released 5 singles and an EP between January 1963 and November 1964, they also appear in the film 'It's All Over Town' in which among other things they sneak into a Springfields song, I have the LP somewhere.

This record got quite a bit of airplay, and being often played on Two Way Family Favourites, none of their records made the charts, for a time I had the opening bars of this record as the ring tone on my mobile phone.

Jan would in the 1970's be a regular on the Children's TV show Crackerjack, the Wikipedia entry for Jan Hunt has no mention of her Jan & Kelly days.

My copy of this record is a normal stock copy, the records with 'Sample Record' stickers are part of the quality control process, when records were being manufactured one in every hundred records was played, if the record had a fault on the play back all the records pressed sing the previous record played were rejected, the records that were played had the 'Sample Record' sticker added and were sold at a discount in the staff shop, and not as a few people think that they are Demonstration records.
